Workshops, Ideas and Activities for English Retreats

Updated Wednesday, February 2, 2000

Welcome to the Nagasaki Prefectual Education Center's Homepage.

Our purpose for this site is to introduce what we do here in the English Department. We hope that this information is helpful and informative for those of you who are interested in our retreats or are looking for new teaching ideas.
The Education Center is located in Omura City next to Omura Park . Omura City is located between Sasebo and Nagasaki City. The Education Center is a teacher training facility. Teachers from every level of education: elementary, Jr. High and Sr. High are chosen to work at the Education Center to study education problems and to plan conferences for teachers from every subject. The Education Center holds various conferences for teachers throughout the year.
Here in the English Department both the ALT and the English Education Consultant plan and develop English Oral Communication Retreats for Japanese Teachers of English. These conferences are held at various times during the year. Workshops for these retreats are designed to give teachers both theoretical and practical ideas on teaching. Each conference is about 2 to 4 days long and consist of various workshops and fun learning activities.
These retreats are good opportunities for Japanese teachers to use their English in a relaxed and creative environment, to brush up on their communication skills and increase their confidence and abilities in teaching English. Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) are invited to these conferences to serve as mentors and facilitators for various activities. .
